Consumer spending, income rise in February

A J.Crew store is seen in Manhattan, New York The Commerce Department said on Friday that consumer spending increased 0.3 percent last month after rising by a revised 0.2 percent in January. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast consumer spending, which accounts for more than two-thirds of U.S. economic activity, rising 0.3 percent in February. When adjusted for inflation, consumer spending rose 0.2 percent in February after gaining 0.1 percent in January. Consumer spending rose at its fastest pace in three years in the fourth quarter, helping to lift the economy to an annualized pace of 2.6 percent during the period.
