Google selling Motorola business but keeping some patents

Price cutter's delight as 2014 kicks off on a discounting note Google is getting $2.9 billion for its money losing Motorola phone subsidiary, which it agreed to acquire in 2011 for $12.5 billion. Chinese electronics giant Lenovo is buying the unit, though Google will keep control of most of Motorola's patent portfolio.
