Gold Hits 8-Week Low, Loses Steam Built on U.S. Gov't Shutdown

Gold slid quickly below $1,300 per ounce to its lowest since early August on Tuesday, unwinding much of the steam built up as investors had anticipated a partial U.S. government shutdown, with most betting it would be resolved shortly.
